There is nothing quite as handy as a storage cupboard, for keeping your extra things close at hand, yet out of the way when you don't need them. In most home improvement projects today, the goal is to work with creative solutions for storage, and using extra space – however little there is – efficiently. You want your family's things well-organized, while at the same time you are all juggling the usual busy schedule.
There are ideas to help you, and these will take ordinary storage cupboards and change them into useful storage areas, and functional furniture at the same time. Organizers will help make your life easier, and that is something that everyone looks for these days. Many of the more workable solutions involve using a cupboard with lower and upper shelves, but you can modify some other cabinets to use as pantry storage or a book shelf.
If you set up a handy snack center, you can keep the kids out of the refrigerator every time they walk in the door. You may have fewer cupboard doors left ajar, too. Set up a snack cupboard, where each shelf has a different type of snack on it. You might have one shelf for home-from-school snacks, and one for items that go in school lunch bags. A shelf of healthy snacks is a good idea, too – your children should be encouraged to eat healthy foods. The healthy shelf may include juice boxes, crackers, granola bars and trail mix. If you have the space and an electric outlet close by, you can even add a small refrigerator, for refrigerated treats and cold drinks.
Another storage cupboard solution is the breakfast station. You can keep all the cereal and bowls there, and dried fruits or other treats that can be added to cereal. Put the various goodies in plastic containers that are clear enough to see what's inside. Use small enough containers that even your younger children will be able to hold them easily.
The next cupboard solution is the baking station. How easy will it be to find everything in one place to start on a baking project? Stock these shelves with baking powder, sugar, flour and other ingredients you use to cook or bake. Save some shelf space for recipe books, and perhaps for the mixer, food processor and blender. You can hang small measuring spoons and cups and muffin pans if you allow extra room for them. Store your baking pans inside each other, and put in a container to hold your rolling pin, spatulas and wooden spoons. A bulletin-board type cork board can be attached to the inside of the door to store more recipes and your weekly shopping list.
Use another cupboard area for your bar-tending storage. Serving all your guests will be very easy with this set-up. Use one shelf for your mixed drink glasses, and hang slotted holders for your stemware. You can hang a corkscrew and various smaller utensils on a rack in the door. Dividers shaped like X's or a wine rack can hold different types of wines. A little wire rack will be perfect for coasters, napkins, garnishes and drink mixes. If you have the space in your storage cupboard, a large shelf or rack will be very handy for an ice bucket and more liquor bottles.
